Resources: So many to choose from

All of us WAHM’s want to improve our work at home experience. Many companies promise to help, but how many of the companies actually do? My friends and I have been online for eons. Or at least it seems like it. I swear we have tried everything out there. I’ll put the good, the bad and the ugly about companies we have used. All the companies have had good parts to them. Some of them just didn’t deliver everything we thought they would, or a new service came out that was even better.
I’ll list benefits and some drawbacks we have found as business out there has different needs. What may not have worked for me, may be perfect for you! As I’ve mentioned all the resources won’t be free. Sometimes you get what you pay for and when time is precious you need to get it done efficiently. But there are many great free services out there. In fact this blog is created on one of them. Wordpress is the ultimate in blogging and it is free. You can read more about it here.
Newsletters - Many, many to choose from, but make sure it’s reputable or you could put your company in jeopardy. You always want a company that has double opt-in and an easy one click unsub at the bottom of each newsletter or message you send. Picking a good one first is much easier than trying to switch your email subscribers over at a later date.

Website Building Programs - Here is a major area that you get what you pay for. If you need a html editing program and don’t know any html, then you will really need to research and try things out yourself. You can get references, but it will be nothing like actually using the program. I know I have used frontpage for 5 or 6 years now and most people don’t like it. I have never had a problem with it and I taught myself most everything I needed. If price is the only thing holding you back, you may want to use a free version and then start saving.

Blogs - Many sites are built with just simple blog programs such as wordpress. There are many options out there and most of them are free.

Web Tools - There are many tools out there that you don’t even know are available unless you’ve been searching for a few years online. I get sent a few new one’s every week from friends. lol Some are more helpful than others of course, but you just never know when you are going to need that silly little tool to put your pages in perfect order.

Domains and Hosting - So many to choose from, how do you pick? Reliability. I always go with hosting that is recommended to me from others. It is too important to have customer service answered quickly and to have no downtime with your site.

Boards - Which boards are easy to use and reliable? With all that are out there to choose from, where to even start? I’ll try to give you the rundown on a few that I’ve used and my friends still use that I frequent.

WAHM Message Boards - For those questions that just aren’t getting answered or to chat with other Mom’s in business, here are some great boards for the serious WAHM. It’s always more fun to go through life knowing there are other people working just as hard as you are. Sometimes we need them to help pick us up when we are having a bad day. But mostly we need them to encourage us that we are doing exactly what we dreamed of…working at home!
