Guilt is Unproductive

25 August 2010 2 Comments

So how has your summer been? Busy? Working a lot? Playing with family? Did you get everything done for everyone online and off? WAS THERE HOPE OF THAT HAPPENING?!!!

Yep, the guilt. I (and you as well) can’t do everything for everyone offline and in your business. It won’t happen. It will never happen. I can’t spend quality family time and be on my computer at the same time and expect 100% of my attention to be on both. Is that what I’m trying to do?

I’m trying to figure out how the summer got so off track and why I feel so bad about it. This summer has been fun and we have a lot of family memories we’ve made. My oldest is 15 now and graduates in 2013, that’s only 3 more years and 2 summers left until she’s graduated and our whole family dynamic changes. Spending time with my attention devoted to family is a top priority and something I will never get back.

However, covering business expenses AND some bills is pretty high up there as well. lol Now my income didn’t stop during the summer, but it’s definitely taken a big hit and it shouldn’t have been to the extreme it went. But quite a bit of the time I was online I was unproductive. As Kelly posted just a couple of days ago, Facebook games have been a lot of fun this summer. In fact, if you friend me I bet my farm and cafe are way ahead of yours. lol Ok, that’s nothing to be proud of, but since getting on FB I know when I’m hiding because my games are rockin’

Hubby and I are going out on a date tonight and I’m going to really talk to him about this guilt of how I have felt about the summer and even some of the spring. I know that will help alleviate some of the pressure that I’m only putting on myself.

How am I going to climb back into productive mode? I started on Monday. I took 2 of my sites that are making money and I got to marketing. I got back on my fanpages, I twittered on their accounts and I added some articles. Within an hour of tweeting, I’d made a new subscription sale on Once a Week Cooking. Nothing better than a paypal notice to help get you out of a funk.

One other thing I am going to do is set up shorter hours for working online. I’ll set up more house projects to get done before the rain hits (any day now in Seattle, literally) and work online for 4 hours in the morning. I’m going to shut the computer down more and walk away. This will help alleviate some of the zombie stare the computer screen as well.

So do you need a kick in the right direction or just a slight nudge? Are you in need of some coaching or maybe even HAVE to have some resources to help you get there? Let me know and I’ll post some help.

Man! I am so with you! It’s like I get into this funk and I don’t get up from the puter to do housework, but, when I’m sitting here I go into zombie-web-surfer mode and don’t accomplish any work either! And then the guilt is compounded even more and then the whole thing gets even worse. Yikes!

That’s awesome you got a subscription sale – like validation – yes! You’re working! That’s it! LOL

I’m going to really work to get my butt in some action today, too!

Made two new one’s this week so far. Validation does work some wonders. lol

I need to keep some baby step goals going and then walk away from the computer more. I know it’s also not helping that hubby has had a ton of time off for vacation. We aren’t even keeping our crazy “normal” schedule of him going off to work.

Lisa, get to work! Do just one thing real quick and then shut her down for a bit.
