It’s been said that “no man is an island” – this couldn’t be more true when it comes to working online. Particularly when you’re working from home; it’s very easy to get into a “lone worker” mentality. Avoid this by using our networking tips to help you expand your network.
#1 – Build a support system. Find others in your field or work and build up a support system. These people will not only understand your business but they’ll also be able to support you in a number of ways, such as sending new business referrals your way or recommending a great service provider. Of course, you’ll also want to help them in return.

Social networking is here to stay – Twitter, Facebook, Bebo, MySpace, blogging and a host of new social networking sites are HUGE. People want to be connected and the speed we’re moving in to stay connected is frightful at times – how can you keep up? But more importantly, are you being less productive than you should by visiting social networking sites?
The first thing to note is that social networking shouldn’t be looked at as a negative thing. It’s simply the next stage of internet business and as savvy online business owners, it’s up to us to stay connected to the latest trends and changes in this field.

When you’re new to the internet, it’s difficult to know what you should and shouldn’t do. In our daily lives the rules of etiquette are a little easier to understand; after all we deal with them each and everyday. However, the internet may seem a whole different world to someone just starting out.
If you’re new to the nets, we have some great netiquette tips to help you navigate your way through this whole new experience. And please let me be the first to explain that if you are new, we are all hear to help you learn. It’s the people that have been around a while and ignore rules that annoy us. You’ll get there in no time at all and know what we mean. lol

Networking online is a great thing. It helps you stay connected with your peers and can make working from home a little less lonely. However, there are some pitfalls to networking online.
On the internet you don’t have face-to-face interaction with people. You also have a larger amount of people to deal with at any one time. Most of the people you’ll meet are anonymous and this anonymity can often create a feeling of freedom in people. Meaning they may not moderate the things they say and often times may behave completely different to how they would behave offline. This can lead to a lot of negativity and often harshness.

Realizing that you are spamming is not always the easiest. Even for some that have been online for a little while seem to be getting caught at it.
Community invites have become more than just a nuisance to me now. They have completely moved on to being spam.
I get at least 50 invites to various communities a month. Almost every one of them is for the latest community started on a free NING account. I have actually started pushing them to my spam folder in hopes that someone at NING will need to help figure this out. There have been days that I’ve gotten up to 10 invites from one person for 10 different communities they have created. Total spam garbage.
