You may think that having a successful business is based around how much marketing or advertising someone does, how well they handle customer service, or some other reason. You may be surprised to learn that having a profitable business can simply come down to determining what your target market wants and what their needs are.

Your target market is the group of people that you are marketing your products and services to. Not everyone will want to buy your product or service. For instance, all women do not need the same supplements.

There are some women that need help for fibromyalgia, and there are some who will need pre-natals, and there are others who only want multi-vitamins. And then there are the women that need extra calcium or what have you. The point is, different segments of the population want and need different things.

To be successful, you will need to determine what your target market wants and needs, and then you will want to provide it for them. If you happen to be in your target market, you are off to a good start. You can start thinking about the things you want.

Now, if you are not directly a part of your target market, you can start off by putting yourself in their shoes. What do you think they would want? Picture yourself living a day in their life and imagine what types of products or services could make their lives easier. You have to make sure that you have narrowed down to a niche market before you can hit what your target wants however. Otherwise there are just too many possibilities and you will get off track.

You can also study the competition. Look at other products that are aimed at your target market and compare your products or services. What features and benefits can you offer that will give you an edge over the competition?

Try to find some websites that are dedicated to your target market and spy on them through the websites’ forums. You can learn a lot about your target market and what they are looking for by using this tactic. Or join their newsletter list. Don’t think that they won’t join yours if they find it. All the big names do the same with secret shoppers, so take after them.

Don’t forget to simply ask your target market what they want. You can create a form on your website that asks some basic questions about their needs and what they would like to see in the type of product or service you offer. Start asking your visitors or the people on your mailing list to fill out the questionnaire. You can give away an ebook or other product as an incentive to help you with the survey.

This is a great way to find out exactly what your target market wants and needs. Once you have that data, you can create the product or service to fill their needs. Since you already have their names and email addresses (from when they filled out the form in the first place), you can email them and let them know when the new product is ready. This could be a great way to jump start your sales.

You will find that some internet marketers choose to work exclusively with niche marketing. A niche market is a highly targeted group of people. For instance, if you sell furniture that is a wide market. But choosing to build a site around tv lifts is a niche market.

There is a big difference between the two. If you do not carry tv lifts, the smaller niche market will not buy from you. And if you only carry tv lifts, there will be people in the wider target market who will not buy from you.

The reason internet marketers like to work with niche markets is having the opportunity to be the only carrier of a product that will fit that niche market’s needs. It may take some work, but if you can find a niche and offer a product or service to them, you have the opportunity to sell a lot of products or services. It is also easier for SEO purposes. You gear your site to certain keywords.

Start researching your own interests and see what comes up. Or take your target market and find out if there is a product or service that a highly targeted number of them need, but can’t seem to find. I prefer to take something I am interested in and then narrow it down to a certain line of products or services. For example, I prefer to work with Mom’s because that is what I am and know. But I target Mom’s for their wellness needs on Busy Momma Wellness. That makes a smaller niche than just Mom’s. I’ve targeted Mom’s that are interested in taking care of themselves.

You can use services like Wordtracker to determine which keywords and phrases are being searched the most often. For instance, if your target market is people that home school their children, and you plan on having a niche site about creating lesson plans, you can use the service to see which type of lesson plans are the most sought after.

Not only will you want to take notice of how many searches are being performed, you will want to see how many competing pages there are. Your best bets in niche marketing will be to find a phrase that is searched on a lot, but doesn’t have many competing pages.

In addition to this type of research, you can also set up a campaign amongst your own customers and mailing list and simply ask them what type of products or services they would like to see you offer. This can give you some great ideas that you may not have thought of yourself.

As you start to develop ideas about which niche you would like to focus on, start taking notice of your competition. Study the products and services they offer, the features and benefits of these products, and their price points. This will help you develop your product. What are the things you can improve upon? How can you make your product more unique? How can you provide more benefits to the user or how can you make your product more affordable?

Once you have settled upon a niche and developed a product or service, you will need to develop a website and start promoting your item(s). You can then think of more products and services to offer to this same niche or you can start the process over and find a new niche to market to. I highly recommend finding more products in that same niche. Once you have your customers signed up on a newsletter list, you will want to give them more of what they are already looking for.

Writing for the internet is different from writing for other mediums. It requires the writer to engage readers quickly in order to avoid losing them to another website. But, the readers are only part of the equation. In order to make sure your website is seen in the first place, you must also write to attract the search engines.

Search engines use complicated and frequently changing algorithms to determine how relevant a web page is to any given search term. They then rank the relevant sites from highest to lowest in search results. The popularity of search engines makes them one of the best ways to get traffic, but it is essential to be ranked highly for terms that relate to your site to receive the maximum benefit and traffic. You want to make sure that the traffic coming to your site is targeted to purchasing your product in order to make money. Just getting high traffic is not enough.

While the algorithms used to rank sites are a well-kept secret, there are ways to ensure that your site will be ranked highly for the search terms you choose. These terms, also called keywords, must be placed strategically within your copy so that the search engines will find your page relevant. While this should come naturally to a certain extent it is important to make sure that they are included in a way that optimizes your chances of being ranked highly.

Choosing the Best Keywords

The first thing you must consider when adding keywords to your copy is which keywords to use. Some people make the mistake of using keywords that are not commonly searched. There are keyword selector tools online that can assist you with this. You just enter the keyword you are considering and they will tell you how often it and other related keywords are searched for. Also keep in mind, just because a keyword or phrase is popular doesn’t mean you will rank highly for it. Keep the competition in mind when considering your keywords as well. For instance, if your site is focused on hoodia diet products, you probably will have a hard time ranking high quickly because there are so many sites to compete with.

It is also essential to consider the audience or target market you are looking to attract. Think about who your ideal visitor is then think about what terms that person would use when looking for your web page. These may be less technical or otherwise different from the ones you would use because your ideal visitor may not be as well versed in the subject at hand as you are. Ask some friends what terms they would use to search for a topic. You may have some surprise answers that hit it big for you.

Finally, you can use more than one keyword on a page. It’s a good idea to stick with three or less though. Any more than that will probably look unnatural and make the writing flow poorly. Even though we are trying to rank high in the search engines, it won’t do any good if our visitors won’t read it. lol

Incorporating the Keywords Into Your Writing

If you choose the correct keywords it shouldn’t be very difficult to make them fit into your copy. The easiest way to do so is to write the copy as you normally would remembering to use the specific keyword you’re targeting instead of any synonyms you might otherwise use. When you’re done go through and see how many times you used the keywords. If they don’t make up about 3-5% of the total number of words used go back and add them in a few more times where appropriate.

Try to use keywords in headings where appropriate. The search engines look favorably on keywords used in this manner and may consider the page more relevant when found there. Using them as linking text is also thought to earn brownie points with the search engines.

Using the right keywords is essential if you are looking for good placement in the search engines. Working these keywords into your copy should be fairly easy. If you have chosen terms that fit with the subject at hand you will be able to incorporate them into your writing without much effort.

Deep linking is the process of linking to a specific page on a website, rather than just the homepage. For instance, a regular link would point to mysite.com, but a deep link would point to a specific page on that site, such as mysite.com/page1.

Some corporations try to discourage deep linking, as it allows users to visit a specific page, while bypassing advertising on the front page of the site. Since the home page typically gets more hits they can get more money for those ads. For most businesses deep linking is very helpful and actually sought after. Here are a few reasons why deep linking on your site can help your business.

Deep linking greatly increases a user’s ability to find exactly what they are looking for on the web. If you were on a website researching chicken recipes and saw a link for chicken pot pie, when you clicked on it, you would expect to be on a page that had a recipe for chicken pot pie.

You would be disappointed if you ended up at a main page of another recipe website and had to search through all their recipes in order to find the recipe you thought you were linked to. When a website owner deep links to a specific page that contains the specific content their readers are looking for then the reader is much more satisfied. Readers are more apt to visit other pages on the site. You only have a few seconds to keep their attention. If you make them search for the information that they thought they were going to get immediately, you may have already gotten them to click away from your site.

Not only does deep linking help the website visitor but it also helps the website owner with keeping tabs on their tracking. They are able to see exactly which pages of their website are getting the most links. This can help them decide what the most popular content on their site is and what their visitors are looking for. If your insurance site is getting the most hits on Baltimore car accident attorney, then it’s a good bet that you should put up more information pages about Baltimore.

This can also help in the search engine rankings. If there was a site about tropical birds that had links coming in to various pages on different types of birds, when someone searched for “parrot” then the parrot page would come up. The person would be able to visit the page that allowed them to learn exactly what they wanted.

If you participate in any pay per click advertising, use deep linking to point to exactly what your ad is talking about, which will help your conversion rates. For example, if you have a site about gardening and place an ad for shovels, using deep linking in the ad to point directly to the shovel page rather than pointing to the home page.

If the ad pointed to the home page, there may be some visitors who would navigate towards the shovels they were originally looking for but some would leave the site altogether. If the ad points directly to the shovel page more people would buy the shovels and that would increase the conversion rates. Your conversion rate means that the hit was converted to a sale, or most also consider them joining your mailing list a conversion.

Start creating deep links in a blog and link to specific content on the site. Include deep links in articles submitted to reprint article directories. Experiment with this idea and see if traffic increases and especially your conversion rates.

The point of this blog is to give you resources to make your online life easier and more effective. There are times when hiring out is the smart thing to do. For most, SEO is one of those reasons. It takes time to learn SEO, it takes time to implement it, and it takes time to watch for the results. Is this one of the things that you could be using your time doing effectively or are you better used in other aspects of your business?

Hiring out for your search engine optimization can be a business lifesaver for some. Letting others that know more about SEO help build your site to it’s potential instead of fumbling through it alone may be your smartest move yet. I know that I have been around since SEO started running around on the internet and yet still I learn something new all the time. But, I just don’t have time to keep up with the new trends and techniques to be used on top of all the tried and true optimization that still needs to be done on every page.

Discount click is here to help. They offer many services ranging from simple link building for popularity, pay-per-click set-up, or premium services of ranking and promotion.
There’s not a single one of us that doesn’t need SEO help. As soon as you think you may be getting it, the laws will change and you can start all over again. Plus there are so many steps that you may forget to do something the next page you build. Please don’t be afraid of SEO. It is a huge task, but each step you take will be good for your business. I have some great free resources for you to check into. I’ve used them both personally and what you use will depend on how much time you have to devote to it.

An incredible SEO class that I have taken and so have quite a few of my friends is the SEO Training by GNC Web Creations. This is a very indepth class and you need to have some time to devote to it. You also need to follow her directions to the “T”. Creating a new email account just for the mass amount of emails will save you a lot of headache. Because you are going to want to save all the emails for further reference and that way you won’t have to separate them from your personal and business emails every day. If you catch the class midway or towards the end just hold on for it to begin from the beginning again. This is one class you can NOT start any where except at #1.

For those with less time there is a great SEO Made Easy Ebook that will take you through the steps as well. It’s not nearly as detailed and of course you can’t ask questions like you can in the ecourse. But it will get you started correctly from the beginning.

Both of these options are free, so take advantage of their expertise to help your website in the search engines.
