It never fails. As I sit and go over my yearly goals, a site will go under full revamping. Sometimes it’s just a design remodel, but sometimes it will be a full makeover of direction and design. This year is a full makeover year for Once a Week Cooking.

There are a few options out there for going the full route. I can do quite a bit of the work myself, pulling in help for things I’m not incredible at like web design. Or I can go with a full web product design agency and watch aspects of my site grow that I hadn’t considered.

In this case, I don’t think I will be needing a full site redesign for once. I have the logo as I like it, but I may need to go with a new theme. With how many wordpress theme’s there are, it’s major overload trying to find the right one. But I know the right theme will convert to more sales in this case. So I have been going to other sites I like for a few minutes each week and seeing what themes they are using. Visually appealing sites will help keep visitors there for longer.

The major revamping question is how to get the membership area exactly as I want it. I am close to saving up for amember and I know this is the resource that many I like to learn from use and it’s also a resource I use a lot as a customer. But it is possible for me to change my delivery at this time and use options I’m already paying for each month. One really great thing is amember is the one time charge. No monthly payment being taken out for services. I have to say that when I go back and add up how much I’ve paid over the years, this one time option is very appealing.

My list has built slowly which is good since I haven’t promoted it like it should. I have also not stayed connected with the list. So basically I have a targeted list and I’m wasting it. Definitely a big one I’m hitting. Starting this week as a matter of fact. Then I need to use this list to contact them twice a month. When I send out a quick broadcast to this list it converts to 2-8 new subscribers. DUH, isn’t that motivation enough right there? I just need to use the scheduling options in aweber and get a few done for January and February. Work ahead instead of feeling behind.

More products are in the works for said site. As the year went by (SO QUICKLY!) I came up with new ebook ideas. I started outlines for these products and in some cases they are quite close to finished. I think I will outsource making them pretty as I can have them proofread at the same time. These new products give me a start on where my marketing needs to be for next year and I can literally get my calendar out and plan when the marketing needs to get started.

Affiliates is another big place I need to hit. I need to get them more ways to advertise for me. Some graphics to match the new logo and in different sizes. A freebie they can give out or if they want to hold a giveaway. I haven’t pushed the affiliate program because I wanted to get more resources in place and better communication with them.

These are all things (except for the graphics) that I can do myself. They are things that I should already have been doing. They are things that directly convert to more sales. I will be setting my goals for this site on which one’s make me more sales the quickest. When I make more sales then I can bring in a VA to help with other aspects. With two of us working on my goals list it’s that much more of a win-win situation.

I try hard not to kick myself for things I know I should have been doing. Yes, I take a quick look at why I’m not doing them, so maybe I can watch if I fall into that poor habit again. But I can’t dwell on how much money I would have made last year if I’d done these things. I need to look ahead to growth and keep excited about the future of the site. Woulda-coulda-shoulda will just get me sitting here in the same spot next year

Do you have a major revamp or site restructure planned for 2011?

Content is one of the most valuable assets of an internet marketer. But you need to make the most of your content, to repurpose and reuse it in as many ways as possible. Here are a few easy ways to make the most of your content.

1. Article marketing. Articles that are published on your website can be rewritten and used for article marketing purposes. The rewriting process is simply a matter of changing the content by changing the wording, not the overall concept or information in the article. There are tools online that you can use to ensure your ‘rewrite’ is considered ‘original’ by the search engines. But I don’t recommend using them as the sentences will usually not make since and the grammar may become strange. Content can be rewritten by you, a virtual assistant or outsourced to a writer for a nominal fee.

2. Blog posts. Large articles can be segmented into several smaller blog posts. In fact, often one paragraph in a larger article (1000 words or more) makes a great blog post because it’s very specific. All you need to do is write an introduction and a short conclusion and you have a great blog post from content that’s already written. Or you can rewrite a shorter article using the strategy in #1 to create a unique blog post.

3. Reports. Collect like articles and blog posts to create a unique report. You’ll need to write an introduction, a conclusion and some transition paragraphs to make the report feel seamless. However, you’re creating a valuable product you can sell or give away from content that’s primarily already written. If you’re an affiliate marketer, also include a page at the end with resources readers can use that pertained to the report.

4. Guest articles/blog posts. You can rewrite articles to publish on partner websites or as guest blog posts to boost awareness and credibility.

5. Autoresponders/newsletters. Use your article content to create autoresponders or newsletters. Many of your prospects do not visit your website regularly to catch up on new content. You can publish your best articles in a newsletter or you can summarize them, or publish a teaser and link to the article on your website. Thus increasing website traffic.

6. Ebooks. Just like creating reports in #3, you can create ebooks by collecting groups or chapters of like content. Sell it or give it away as a bonus, lead generator or viral product.

7. Ecourses. Use your articles to create short lessons for an online course which you can again give away or charge for as an information product.

It should be noted that all of the points here are on how to make the most of your article content; however, if you have books and reports, they can easily be segmented into articles, blog posts, ecourses, newsletter content and autoresponders.

Whether you’ve written the content, outsourced it, purchased PLR or a combination of all three, it makes good business sense to make the most of your investment.

Repurposing your content makes good business sense. It’s a good way to squeeze out as much value as possible from your current content. Repurposing also helps your customers by providing fantastic content in a variety of ways because some people understand things in differently.

Here are a few ideas to help you repurpose your content:

Recycle. There’s no need to just use great content once. Recycling your content benefits everyone in a positive way. A good way to do this is to think about each piece of content and how you can reuse it.

A few ideas may be:

#1 – Take a special download report and use the content for article distribution. The report is only available for download on your website but you can use several articles within the report to distribute to article directories. That content will then work to bring you new subscribers to your site as they will want to read more.

#2 – Use product content to create an autoresponder series. If you have an info product available for sale (or a free one) you can take snippets of that content and turn it into an autoresponder series. This way your customers can preview the content through the AR series and the AR series can promote the actual product. This is one of my favorite ways to repurpose and also to list build.

#3 – Use the content on your website for a product. If you have articles on your website or blog you can easily turn these into a product. Simply choose a collection of articles you’ve previously written and make them available in download format for customers.

You can choose to use this content as a free giveaway to gain more subscribers, or you can turn it into an actual product for purchase. Not everyone is likely to look through your whole website or blog to find the content. Also, people will often pay for the convenience of having the information at their fingertips without having to search for it. I personally do add a little more info to these articles and a really strong introduction and ending when I repackage my content in this way.

#4 – Use your newsletter to attract search engines. If you have a regular newsletter which you send out make sure you also add it to your website or blog pages after sending. This will help you attract more search engine traffic and will give customers an archive to view previous newsletters.

#5 – Turn your audios into content. If you have audios on your website, use them to get more free search engine traffic. Have the audios transcribed and place them on your website or blog pages. This also gives your customers options, as some people will prefer to read rather than listen to an audio.

With a little thinking and planning you can make your content go a long way.

PLR ( private label rights ) is one of my absolute favorites. But alas, I will acknowledge that it becomes an addiction at times and is on my computer stacking up. What a waste!

I know from time to time you have seen my recommendations for PLR and I honestly do subscribe to all of them. But I want to make sure my readers are also using their time and money wisely since I know how easy it is to spend a ton of money each month and not even use it.

I’ve created the “Use that PLR” ecourse to help you get it off your computer. Never let it sit on your computer when it could be bringing you new traffic, earning you better SEO and just generally helping your readers. Whether you have a website or a blog, this ecourse will help you get the PLR off your computer and helping to make you money.

Don’t have those conversion rates? Well then you are seriously losing out on your lists. The ONLY program I recommend is Aweber. Yes, they aren’t cheap anymore, but if you are building your lists correctly then you should be making enough money from those lists to pay for it and more.

Remember that I am here to help you work more efficiently, not the cheapest way possible or the way to start off your biz for free. I want you to utilize your time well. But starting off at only $19 with a 30 day money back guarantee is very affordable.

If you want to generate traffic to your website, increase the size of your mailing list, and sell more products, consider creating an e-course. An e-course is information, usually delivered a chunk at a time, as in one lesson per day, via email.

An e-course can be on any topic. Take a look at your website and think about what your target market would like to learn about. If your website is devoted to information about beauty treatments, you can create an e-course explaining how to have a spa day at home. If your website contains information about sewing, you can create an e-course that explains how people can start their own sewing business. The choices are limitless.

Once you know what your topic will be, start writing. If you are not familiar enough with the topic to write from your own experiences, research the subject first. You may want to write the entire course in one word processing file; once the work is done, you can read through it and find appropriate section breaks.

If writing an entire e-course seems daunting, don’t worry. You don’t have to write a book. Just write a few simple lines about a given subject in order to answer a question your target market likely has. Do this every day for a week, and you have written your e-course. You can also get others to help you write your ecourse for free or very inexpensively. (More info on this below.)

Once you have written your e-course, you will need to get it delivered to your subscribers. The easiest way to do this is with an autoresponder. You can subscribe to an autoresponder service for around $20 per month. You can create lists in your autoresponder, and load unique messages for that particular list.

Your autoresponder service will generate a bit of HTML code to display on your site or blog. When someone clicks on the link, they will be subscribed to your list. When someone subscribes to that list, they will receive all the messages in the order you select.

When you write your e-course, you should have some products you want to promote in mind. For instance, you may have created an information product about affiliate marketing. You can create a free e-course about affiliate marketing in order to promote your information product. You can also include links to other products you are an affiliate for.

You do not have to give your e-course away. Your e-course can be the information product that you are selling. You can also make it interactive by including links to audios, videos and other information.

Promoting the fact that you have these e-courses available will help bring traffic to your site. You can even make some of the links customizable for others to put in their affiliate links and give the e-courses away for others to use. If you do this, keep the links to your website unchangeable, so the people who end up reading the e-course can still come to your site for more information.

For more information on ecourses and how they help grow passive income from your website, visit Mini Course Money. It includes ideas to help you brainstorm your topic and a step by step checklist on setting up your first ecourse.

The higher your conversion rate, the more traffic you turn into subscribers and the more money you will make. The following are some tips on increasing the conversion rate for your ecourse.

* Grab Your Visitors’ Attention With a Catchy Headline
Your headline is the first thing your visitors will read. You will want to grab their attention with a catchy phrase that clearly states the biggest benefit your ecourse has to offer.
* Give Your Visitor A Compelling “Call To Action”
Your page should include a “call to action” like “click here to sign up” or “click here for your free tips”. Internet users like to be told what to do, nicely. It makes the decision easier.
* Format Your Text With Bullets
Many people prefer to simply scan web pages rather than read them. Use bullets to explain your products benefits. Your visitors’ eyes will be drawn to the bulleted text.
* Use The Correct Images
The images you use on your opt in page should explain what your ecourse is about in a visual manner. If you are promoting “10 tips to a better behaved dog” ecourse and your sign up page has pictures of rabbits, you are going to confuse your visitor. Your images should also be clear and easy to see.
* Keep Your Site Professional Looking
Keep your site professional with good web design principles in mind. Avoid too many fonts or colors, anything flashy or distracting. A professional looking opt in page builds credibility.
* Add Your Photo and Signature
Adding a photo of yourself and your handwritten signature will also add to your credibility and create trust. Your visitors will get to see that they are doing business with a real person; not some nameless, faceless computer.
* Provide Testimonials
A testimonial page will provide further credibility. If possible, ask the people that are providing the testimonials to allow you to publish their photo. If your visitors see that real people, just like them, are benefitting from the information in your ecourse, they will be more likely to subscribe.

As you may know, the size of your mailing list can reflect the size of your profits. Your “mailing list” is the group of people that have signed up to receive your mailings, which can be a newsletter, e-course, or any other email.

You can set up a mailing list through an autoresponder service, such as Aweber. Once you register for the service, you can set up a mailing list and preload various emails that will be sent to the people that sign up to receive them. Your autoresponder service will give you a bit of HTML that you can add to your website or blog. When people click the link, they will be added to your list. As soon as they are added, they will start to receive your mailings.

To maximize your profits, you may want to have several different lists, and you will want to stay in touch with the people on your lists regularly. For instance, you may have a general newsletter list for your website, as well as lists set up for the specific sections of your website.

If your website focuses on children, you may have a section devoted to toddlers, a separate section devoted to early elementary age children, and another section devoted to older children. Set up an ecourse for each separate section. You don’t need to have a separate newsletter for each age bracket; however, having these separate mailing lists will allow you to send news and advertisements that each list would be interested in.

For example, if you are an affiliate for various products relating to children, you can send an email with some information about toddlers directly to your toddler list. Include your affiliate link for a product that they may be interested in. You may notice that your conversions go up, as you are no longer sending parents of older children links to products focused on toddlers. You will be able to send each specific group links to products that they will find most helpful.

The time frame that you use to stay in contact with each list may vary. If someone signs up for your general newsletter list, they may expect to receive a newsletter each week or month. However, if someone only signs up to receive updates for a specific section on your website, they may get irritated if you send them an email every single day.

Use your best judgment when setting up your emails. You will want to stay in contact with them regularly enough so that they do not forget you, but you don’t want them to feel harassed, either.

If you are sending your mailing list regular updates about your site, and including helpful information, you will see that your profits will increase.

Newsletters are this weeks priority. I have a to do now list on notepad and I love deleting things from it. I think deleting is even more fun than crossing it off a physical list. I’m a list girl, but I tend to have too many of them laying around. Then I confuse myself on which one is the most important to get done. My laptop has cured that thankfully. Plus it’s made it easy to work here and there when I have a 1/2 hour between appointments.

So I know it sounds like a lot, but I have to get all 4 newsletters out by the end of the week. I’d actually like to get half of them out today. My 2 appointments just canceled for the day, so I only have appointments tonight. I’m going to wrap it up here at the gym in a few minutes and head home to get these done. I have one newsletter done, just need to update one or two things on it before I send. Then LSS should be quick to put together and the free scrap business newsletter shouldn’t take me much either. Just one or two articles go on that. It’s the scrapfacts ezine that is the longest. But I have some articles stored up for it and I want to focus on business plans. Then i also have to get some of the wahm project’s newsletters completely finished. I have a few written up, but they are not in final draft. Time to finish that completely!

There are times that I am very bad at keeping up with my newsletters. This is a huge no-no. For one thing I pay for my aweber each month
whether or not I use it. Also, I pay $19.95 for it every month. So if I don’t send out a newsletter it can’t make me any money and pay for itself. How stupid is that? I have subscribers that want information and I don’t always take advantage of it. That is poor marketing there. I need to make sure it is a better priority and just get to it at my day job. There is no reason why I can’t sit here in the mornings before my clients get here and crank out an article. It’s all about prioritizing and I’ve got to balance my time better. Cause I do want to do it all. If I don’t do it all then I get bored. lol
