As I work through my own deadweight some other ideas were brought up in comments about buying some of mine. These came up from someone that I’m helping to let go of her own deadweight. Buying one of my sites MAY not help with that. lol BUT there are some reasons to look into buying a website instead of using your current site.
1. Does this site incorporate a few of your sites into one domain? If so then it is something you should look into buying. Putting a couple of the sites you already have going and focusing all the energy on one could be very helpful in getting your to-do list completed.
2. You’ve sold sites off. Another major thing to look at is how many sites you still have in your control. At this time I prefer to only recommend you buy sites if you’ve already sold some of your inventory off that you are not using. I say this from experience. I say this because I’ve promised to sell of sites and haven’t even though I’ve bought others. This is not conducive to getting anything done.
3. Am I ready to move in new direction? Well I defer to #2 on this one, but it is something to look at. If you found a site for sale and it’s in a completely different direction but you are drawn, then you need to look what you still hold on to. If you are holding on to sites because you feel compelled to build them then you are not ready to jump in a new direction. You should severe ties from the old sites first that you are not building.
I hope these help to set some very basic ideas of how to figure out if you are ready to buy a site. I also hope it helps you look at the deadweight sites you are keeping a hold of!
