Prioritizing is especially important during the holidays. Holiday sales will slow down here in a couple of weeks as delivery can not be guaranteed before Christmas, but that is no reason to sit back and take 2-3 weeks off. Merely plan out some of the most important things that need to be done, just the basics (ie. email and your newsletters), and get them done. This will feel like taking time off since you will not be doing the usual updating and everyday, but your business won’t go too stagnate.
Of course if you are in direct sales, then you have to be booking parties for Jan. You can not wait until after the holidays and everyone gets out of alcohol rehab in January to get your business back on track. You need to at least double the time you take off to get back to some semblance of your usual order. This means if you take 2 weeks off, it will take a minimum of 4 weeks to be back on track. Is it worth it? Or can you budget your time so that you do not see that long gap in your checkbook?
By all means, enjoy the holidays and do take some well deserved time off to be with family and friends. Just remember that your business only flourishes if you work it. Weigh how much you need or want that long vacation. If you do take very much time off, I recommend getting someone to at least answer your emails for you. Looking professional at all times is important.
