Advertise Locally

Guilty, I’ll own it. I even have part of my business as a totally local biz, but I still don’t remember to convert all my advertising to being local.

Sometimes being online keeps my head thinking only online. I am a VA, but why does that have to be strictly virtual? Why wouldn’t some local small businesses want a contractor to help them get a newsletter out, manage a mailing list, set up their website, or any number of details that a small business can’t get to. Many small businesses can’t afford full-time employees and even regular part-time employees for that matter.

Persistence – A Sure Way to Success

Calvin Coolidge once said:

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

Who can disagree with that?

Become a General Transcriptionist

You’ve probably seen advertisements on TV offering to train you for a successful career as a medical or legal transcriptionist. While these can be rewarding careers, you can also become a successful transcriptionist without spending all your time and money in classes and learning all the special terms. Their programs are pricey to buy, then there is the expensive equipment and software they say you must buy as well.

Blackberry or Droid?

I’m looking for opinions on phones.  My upgrade is coming soon and I’m not sure which one I should get.  Now that I’m searching around there’s also the Palm Pre Plus in the mix.  I never hear anything about the palm’s and didn’t even know they were around still until the new commercials started coming out.

My husband has the droid and absolutely loves it.  He hasn’t had a single problem with it.  He’s not a techy and found it very easy learn.  BUT, he’s also using it for different things than I will.  His is to check emails, especially to get his work emails, and browse the internet.

Picking One Thing

This week on my favorite forums, I posted the challenge to pick just one thing and focus on it. Having your to do list is great, but there are things that are a bigger priority on that list that must be pushed to the top.

This week I focused on my newsletters. I’d been neglectful and hadn’t been posting them as often as is necessary. One of them I’m sure it is because I was making the newsletter too big. I have decided to scale it back and link to articles and sections on my site instead of full articles. Then there were a couple of newsletters I’d never sent a thing to a joint newsletter I wanted to get some things pre-written for my biz partner to use in the coming weeks so she doesn’t have to come up with so much.

Mommy’s Helper Community WAHM Forum

I started a post previously about forums, negative and then some of my favorites. I briefly touched on my 3 favorites and have now decided to put up a much better description of each of them and hopefully entice you to join us. lol

I’m going to start with my absolute favorite forums. Mommy’s Helper Community. I’ve been a regular posting member there since Sept of 2004. So working on 6 years now! Not only do I have a ton of posts and helpful replies, but I’ve made a ton of friends there. Some of us found each other from a negative forum and then also a forum that was very active and then became spammy. So it was awesome to all join in at Mommy’s Helper and have this positive place to hang out together again.
