Community Invite Spam

Realizing that you are spamming is not always the easiest. Even for some that have been online for a little while seem to be getting caught at it.

Community invites have become more than just a nuisance to me now. They have completely moved on to being spam.

I get at least 50 invites to various communities a month. Almost every one of them is for the latest community started on a free NING account. I have actually started pushing them to my spam folder in hopes that someone at NING will need to help figure this out. There have been days that I’ve gotten up to 10 invites from one person for 10 different communities they have created. Total spam garbage.

Quick Tips #10

Asking for Link Exchanges

I just got the craziest email. It was a shopping site, which of course I get a lot of those because of my market with many sites. But this one was specifically for Working WAHM.

My quick tip today is how to ask for a link. You need to recognize that just because your site may be a benefit to someone’s subscribers, that is not enough. When approaching a site about having them include a link, you need to give something as well. Offer up a link exchange, not just a quick “here’s my site, isn’t it the best?” I may open the link, but probably not. But you can bet that if you didn’t offer up something for me it won’t be worth my time to respond.
